As the world continues to strive for the life we once knew many are turning toward natural and sustainable products to promote a healthier lifestyle and environment. One of the goals of this blog is to start conversations on living a fulfilled life. Once we talk about it, we learn about it, and then we can be about it. Today I am sharing my love of essential oils and the benefits they have had on my skin.
I started my research a few years ago when I wanted to give body scrubs as gifts to family members. This one time diy gift idea turned into a passion that lead to developing a line I regularly used at home. Keeping my skin moisturized and smooth has always been a top priority but learning that it could be maintained using homemade products with the simplest ingredients was exciting. Little did I know that this hobby would turn into a necessary skin care regime.
In the Spring of 2020 I learned I have the genetic marker for Hashimoto and Graves disease. Both are autoimmune disorders that are related to an underactive or overactive thyroid respectively. This diagnosis threw me for a loop because I struggled to see my ability to get my levels balanced enough to avoid the symptoms of either ailment. Thank God for the internet and its array of information. I am currently off thyroid medication and now working on improving my overall health. The first course of action was to remove gluten from my diet and that included my skin and hair products. Luckily I was already in the right direction with my body scrubs. For soaps and shampoos I researched gluten and chemical free lines that I could use as I continue to develop my home made products. Pacifica has been one of my favorites for soap, lotion, and makeup, but I am eager to convert to using completely essential oil infused items made with as few elements as possible.
Some of my favorite essential oils to use are lavender, rose, and eucalyptus. They each have a positive influence on the body and mind.
Lavender – Lavender essential oil has a relaxing effect while restoring inflamed skin. Its natural and fresh aroma makes it my favorite to incorporate in my night time routine. Falling asleep has become that much easier with the use of this timeless oil.
Rose – Rose essential oil has a sweet scent that is beneficial in smoothing fine lines and increasing moisturization for dry sensitive skin. I typically use rose infused products when doing my weekly at home facial.
Eucalyptus – Eucalyptus essential oil is known to ease pain and boost moods. After a tough workout or a rough night of sleep my eucalyptus scrubs help to decrease inflammation while waking me up to face a new day.
So many natural products can be turned into essential oils and the benefits are endless. Follow my social media pages to learn more.
